The Learning Experience® was established in the state of Florida in 1979 by Michael and Linda Weissman. Their son, Richard, soon joined the company. Between '79 and '89 they operated eight centers in Florida, including one at the Kennedy Space Center.

Under the Tutor Time brand, the Weissmans grew their company to nearly 200 operating units in 28 states and several countries. The company subsequently became the fourth largest childcare operation in the United States and the largest franchisor of childcare centers in the world. Under the Weissman's management, national publications named Tutor Time as the top childcare franchise.

In 1997, the senior Weissman retired from the company. His son retired shortly thereafter in 1999 .

In 2001, the Weissmans re-entered the childcare business under their original brand name, The Learning Experience®. This new company is currently developing close to 80 locations within the New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina and Virginia markets. To the best of our knowledge, TLE is currently the fastest growing childcare center operator in the Northeastern United States.
