Going Green: A Lesson on How to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle!

Earth Day 1024x512 1
Learning Activities

On Earth Day, we should all reflect on how much of an impact each of us has in protecting our environment. Your family can start or continue green habits at home by making use of the 3 R’s (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle). As parents play an important role in shaping the behavior of their children, going green as a family will help encourage children to do their part regarding environmental awareness throughout their lives. Below are a few suggestions that can  give you and your family a start with Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling: Reduce:  Children can be taught to reduce consumption of electricity by turning off fans and lights around the house when there is no one presently using them. You can even get some exercise in with your family by walking somewhere instead of using your cars. This will help to reduce your family’s carbon footprint. Reuse: Wherever and whenever possible, please use items that can be reused rather than thrown away in the garbage. Consider reusing plastic bottles. You could have fun with your children by creating vases out of the empty water bottles by painting them. You could also use them as bowling pins for some outside bowling, or take reusable grocery bags with you on your next shopping trip! Recycle: Most cities’ waste management provide curbside recycling so that you can easily sort plastic and paper into a recycling bin to be sent to a recycling center. You can also create compost for a backyard garden by placing food scraps into a bin. The compost is a great recycling method as you bring what you consume back to the earth. The compost will act as a fertilizer to help your garden flourish and grow. Related Post Helping Your Shy Child
